Biography
I received a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Kentucky. I have been serving children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges in public schools and therapeutic programs for several years. I have experience in assessment, behavior intervention, school consultation, and counseling with preteens and adolescents. I chose this career path because my own experiences taught me the value of working with a mental health professional who understands child and adolescent development.
While working for a wilderness therapy program, I learned the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance with youth and creating a safe, non-judgmental environment where they can better understand themselves and the world around them, find their inner strengths, identify and achieve personal goals, process life experiences, and develop strategies for overcoming challenges that may be contributing to feelings of anxiety, sadness, fear, anger, or hopelessness.
My goal for assessment is to take into account the whole child, identify strengths and weaknesses, and help the individual overcome barriers to success in school and outside of school. I am continuously developing my approach to the assessment and therapeutic process to keep clients engaged and making progress toward their goals. I utilize a strength-based approach which incorporates person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-focused therapy strategies. I value creativity, collaboration, authenticity, and utilizing evidence-based practices
