Biography
I am a licensed psychologist (Lic #129217 Kentucky) with 35 years of experience. I graduated from Kent State University in Ohio in 1995 with a doctorate degree in counseling psychology. I specialize in the treatment of adolescents and adults with concerns about depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress, relationships, domestic violence, sexual identity & gender identity, and adjustment to new or changing life situations. I also have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorders. My 35-year career has spanned the education, criminal justice, and psychotherapy fields. I am available for individual psychotherapy only.
My style of counseling is compassionately directive with an emphasis on the client becoming his or her own “agent of change” by identifying areas for change or modification. Although I gather information about past history, my primary focus is about determining how to improve psychological, emotional, and life circumstances in the here-and-now. My primary therapeutic methods are Cognitive-Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Common issues I treat include addiction, anger management, anxiety, depression, divorce and other relationship changes/transitions, grief, forgiveness issues, and diversity-related concerns. I treat the following specific mental disorders: mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, suicide ideation, post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, adjustment disorders, anxiety disorders, and bipolar disorder.
